PRESIDENT TINUBU DEPARTS FOR TÜRKIYE ON STATE VISIT TO BOLSTER BILATERAL TIES
ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Monday, January 26, depart Abuja for Ankara, the Republic of Türkiye, on a high-level State Visit aimed at deepening the long-standing diplomatic and economic relations between both nations.
In a statement released on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the visit is described as a strategic follow-up to the official visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Nigeria in October 2021.
“The visit signals a mutual commitment to strengthening the ‘cordial and robust’ ties shared by the two regional powerhouses,” the statement read.
According to Onanuga, during the mission, President Tinubu and President Erdogan will lead their respective delegations in bilateral talks focused on critical sectors. The agenda is designed to expand cooperation in Defense and Security, through the enhancement of military cooperation and technical protocol; and Economy and Trade, by exploring new frontiers in finance, investment, and communication.
Other areas of focus include Infrastructure, specifically advancing partnerships in aviation and energy, as well as Social Development, with an emphasis on education, scientific research, and the creative economy.
“A centerpiece of the visit will be a Business Forum, which will assemble captains of industry and top-tier investors from both Nigeria and Türkiye to foster private-sector partnerships and cross-border trade,” Onanuga stated.
The two leaders are also expected to witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements will formalize cooperation in scientific research, media and communications, technical exchange, and energy development, ensuring a sustainable framework for future engagement.
President Tinubu will be accompanied by a high-powered delegation of senior cabinet members and security chiefs. The entourage includes:
Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs;
Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, Attorney General and Minister of Justice;
Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), Minister of Defence;
Malam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser;
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior;
Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development;
Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Culture and Creative Economy;
Amb. Mohammed Mohammed, Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA); and
Hon. Jimi Benson, Chairman, House Committee on Defence.
The President is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the visit.
