Police Recruitment: 400,000 Jostle for 50,000 Slots as PSC Extends Deadline

ABUJA – The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced a two-week extension for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 Constables into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The application portal, which was originally scheduled to close today, January 26, has now been shifted to February 8, 2026, to allow for wider participation across the federation.
In a statement released on Monday, the Commission revealed that while over 400,000 applications have been received since the portal opened on December 15, 2025, there is a worrying disparity in the volume of submissions from different states.
According to the PSC, states such as Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna have recorded high application numbers. Conversely, states including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra have recorded notably lower submissions, threatening the principle of federal character and equitable representation.
The Commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Njoku Kalu, noted that the extension is a deliberate move to ensure no state is under-represented in the Force.
“State Governments, Local Government Councils, sociocultural organizations, religious bodies, and community leaders are strongly encouraged to mobilize and sensitize eligible citizens within their jurisdictions to apply before the new deadline,” the statement urged.
The PSC and the Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed their commitment to a “fair and transparent” recruitment exercise, stressing that merit remains a core pillar of the process.
